Mental Health News Radio is proud to announce a new podcaster to their Network. Dr. Walker Ladd will be hosting a new podcast named “Rebel Research Radio”. This podcast will focus on conversations about how we all look at the world, how we come to know the things we know, and how researchers do what they do. Leading researchers in science, education, and psychology will join Dr. Ladd to talk about the role of research in their work and lives. From how they design studies and analyze data, to tackling difficult topics and ethical dilemmas, the goal is to get real about research and the curiosity that drives us all. She serves as a University Research Methodologist and Associate Professor of Qualitative Research Methods for the School of Advanced Studies at the University of Phoenix. She has been recognized for her research and leadership in the field of perinatal psychology, trauma research, and post traumatic growth.

Her first book, “Transformed by Postpartum Depression: Women’s Stories of Trauma and Growth” , was based on her grounded theory study of the transformative nature of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders. Dr. Ladd served as a Research Fellow for the Center for Leadership Studies and Educational Research, where she published a grounded theory study regarding successful scholarly publication for mid-career faculty, co-authored by Dr. Mark McCaslin. Her next book, When Postpartum Depression Grows Up: Reflecting, Researching, Reclaiming, is a synthesis of quantitative and qualitative data regarding how mothers of older children reflect on the experience of having had a perinatal mood or anxiety disorder.

"...for far too long, research has been placed on an imaginary intellectual pedestal. The mainstream image of research, anonymous individuals in white lab coats toiling away behind microscopes, has little to do with most of the research done in the social sciences, humanities, and qualitative research in health sciences"

Dr. Walker Ladd, Ph.D.

When asked why she wanted to start a podcast, Dr. Ladd replied that for far too long, research has been placed on an imaginary intellectual pedestal. The mainstream image of research, anonymous individuals in white lab coats toiling away behind microscopes, has little to do with most of the research done in the social sciences, humanities, and qualitative research in health sciences. Dr. Ladd has never worn a lab coat. Of all the professional labels she has ever had, she is at heart, a researcher.
