Health Psychologist, Coach and Author Dr. Joshua Garrin Launches InsideOut Sports Radio Podcast on Mental Health News Radio Network

InsideOut Sports Radio on Mental Health News Radio Network

New Mental Health News Radio Network podcast InsideOut Sports Radio examines the role of self-acceptance in improving pro-athletic performance.

Health psychologist, coach and author Dr. Joshua Garrin launched InsideOut Sports to take an insightful look at the fears, anxieties and emotional complexities that underlie sports performance.

The show’s first episode aired on Aug. 22. Subsequent episodes will air weekly. They are available on Apple Podcast, Spreaker, Stitcher and Binge Networks TV.

I've always been on a silent quest to better understand the role of vulnerability in sports — that is, the choice to defy the stereotypical patterns of narcissism and hypervigilance that have long governed the game and, instead, consider how a radical, unconditional acceptance of self can inspire performance — from the inside out.

In addition to hosting InsideOut Sports Radio, Dr. Garrin is the author of “The I-Way To Well.” He holds a Ph.D. in health psychology, an M.S. in cognitive psychology and a B.S. in general psychology and journalism. He is also a certified health professional through the American Council on Exercise and the Institute of HeartMath.

He said, “The psychologist in me tends to zero in on both the overt and covert displays of narcissism and egocentricity that do little more for sports (or humanity, for that matter) than boost ratings. Over the years, I gradually began to make a clear distinction between the players who demonstrated high levels of empathy, compassion and respect for their opponents and those who grossly lacked in the humanism department. So, I’ve always been on a silent quest to better understand the role of vulnerability in sports — that is, the choice to defy the stereotypical patterns of narcissism and hypervigilance that have long governed the game and, instead, consider how a radical, unconditional acceptance of self can inspire performance — from the inside out."

Show guests will include players, coaches and people from all parts of the sports arena. InsideOut Sports Radio aims to break stereotypes about what it takes to succeed in the sports arena.

“The benefits of podcasting are in its capacity to instantaneously reach a global audience,” said Dr. Garrin. “It’s also a practical medium; those who tune in can listen on-the-go.”
